CompScoreFTPHow it works: Compscore creates TXT files whenever you print the Results and Boards of a scored session. The Results file name is the same as the session name chosen by the scorer, and the boards file is the same as the session name with "- Boards" appended to the name. These files are created in the \CompscoreW\Text Results folder. When CompscoreFTP is run, it creates HTM files for these text files. It also builds an up-to-date results.htm page containing all the HTM results files it finds in and under this folder. It then uploads all these HTM files, including the newly built results.htm, to the web site via FTP, then moves them to Archive folders. Setting it up: First, download the Installation program, unzip it into a temporary folder, and run the Setup.exe. This will install CompScoreFTP into your programs folder, and add an item to your Programs menu. You should place a shortcut to this program on your desktop to make it easier for your scorers/directors. After installation, navigate to your \CompscoreW\Text Results folder using Windows Explorer. You should see number of TXT files - these will be file files that you will be uploading first time. You may wish to delete some of the older ones if you don't want them uploaded to the web site. You need to make 3 new folders: 1. Make a sub folder under \CompsScoreW\Text Results called HTMFiles. This is where the HTM files will be created. 2. Make a sub folder under \CompsScoreW\Text Results called Archive. This is where the TXT files will be moved after uploading. 3. Navigate to the new \CompsScoreW\Text Results/HTMFiles folder, and create a new folder under it called Archive. This is where the HTM files will be moved after uploading.
Next, launch CompScoreFTP, click the Allow edits to above values checkbox, and enter the password. The following screen will display.
Complete all details. Then, ensure you are connected to the Internet, and click OK. When all files have been uploaded, you will be asked if you want to archive them. Answering Yes moves them to the \Archive sub-folders. Files in the \HTMFiles\Archive folder are included in future builds of results.htm, but are not uploaded again. The settings you entered in the screen above will be automatically held for future use. There is also a "cascading stylesheet" file that needs to be uploaded to your web server. This is called compscor.css and manages the appearance of the various results web pages. Altosoft can provide a template, and can edit it to suit your desired appearance. Important note: When building results.htm, CompScoreFTP will attempt to sort the list newest to oldest, so that the newest results will always appear at the top of the list. This relies on CompScoreFTP being able to interpret the date from the filename chosen by the scorer when entering initial parameters. It is therefore imperative that scorers don't alter the date format that is offered as a default. The date format expected by CompScoreFTP is d Mmmm YYYY, though some variation from this is accepted. Re-scoring sessions: If a session has to be re-scored, the TXT files will be regenerated when the new Results and Boards are printed. These will then be included in the next upload. (It may be necessary to run the upload process twice in order to remove duplicate references to the session.) Removing old data: To purge old results from the list, simply delete the relevant HTM files from the \Compscore\Text Results\HTMFiles\Archive folder on your PC. Next time the results.htm page is re-built, those files won't be present, and therefore won't be included. The files can also be deleted from the FTP server using any FTP client software, but there should be no harm in them remaining on the server, as they only take up a small amount of space.
