Compscore2 News - January 2011
Happy New Year to all.
We recently did an exercise to assess the reach of Compscore2 into Queensland clubs. It is pleasing to see that in South-East Queensland (Brisbane, the Coasts and Darling Downs) 50% of bridge clubs by number, representing 64% by home club membership, are using Compscore2.
Looking at the whole of the State, this is 33% by club numbers and 53% by home club members. We recently had our first installation in Far North Queensland, and have a couple more in the pipeline.
Latest Compscore2 build
Many enhancements have been added over recent months, and Compscore2 development has reached a plateau. For the next few months, development will be limited to minor enhancements and ongoing maintenance. So now is a good time for clubs to download the latest build.
This is freely available to users as well as anyone evaluating the program.
We've also updated the manual and online help with all the latest features, and these are available as separate downloads from the Manual and Help page.
You can also order additional bound copies of the Operating Manual from Altosoft for $14.95 including postage within Australia - just reply to this email if you'd like copies.
Recent Compscore2 enhancements include:
Club membership management, including tracking financial members, printing renewal notices and new member welcome letters, and reports to assist with accounting for subscriptions;
Support for all the new Bridgemate II features - including showing player names on the Bridgemates each round, and next round pair movement;
BM Pros and BMIIs can be used together in the same session;
Single-session teams, with the ability to merge sessions to calculate outright VPs;
Mini-McCutcheons, listing the top 5 players in your club for each masterpoint rank;
Auto-display of results throughout the session, using a separate screen if available, using the auto-update option;
Web site hand display now supports PBN files (as well as BRI and TXT).
The web site has a complete list of all revisions in each build.
There are some other features that you might not be aware of - anomalies checker to help identify data entry errors, median rank calculations, enter weighted scores, Quick Finalise button
to simplify the end of session process, auto-delete players who haven't played recently, merge players where a player has more than one club member number, Player Frequency Report
identifying your most frequent players, and tracking and applying handicaps using one of two methods.
There are also some useful 2-pagers ideal for leaving next to the scoring computer. (Some clubs even laminate these.) There's one on
Running a Compscore2 Bridgemate Session (ideal for new directors),
one on When Things Go Wrong (including Late Change to a Movement), and others on
running Swiss and barometer events. These are all available on our web site as PDF files.
Bridge club web sites
For Clubs using Altosoft web sites, you should all have your 2011 calendars showing. If it's not showing, it means you haven't confirmed your list of Club Calendar Events that was sent out some weeks ago.
Please contact us if you are in this situation. And don't forget that most of the content on your site is user-editable, via your Management page.
For Clubs not using an Altosoft web site, more information can be found on our web site.
Cheers,
Peter Busch Altosoft
